Ugh, computers!
POSTED AT 12:14 AM

My computer's gone funny again.  I didn't do anything!  Wow, it must be a new personal record: no virus for a month.  And yeah, it's also a new personal record for my virus scanner... worked well for a few hours.

Actually, I realized that there was some glitch in the computer when it just started hanging (and this is like the number one thing I hate about computers).  Haaay, I thought a reboot would fix it, but I got problem after problem after problem.  I got some professional help.  It works better now, but I have to do some serious updates since my virus scanner's malfunctioning.

For some reason, I just have this annoying luck with computers.  They hate me.

Last night made me excited for school
POSTED AT 10:13 AM

There was this Yahoo group for our OrSem this June.  I was browsing the messages they posted.  About a quarter of those who joined the Yahoo group were my coursemates!  People started sending me messages on YM, and soon, we were all in a conference.

I had fun getting to know people on YM.  Ysa and Annie were there too.

Weeeee! We're about to go to school.  I can't wait.

Just killing time (at least trying to)
POSTED AT 01:59 PM

Yesterday, I watched Star Wars III again with Hannah SD at Powerplant.

Yesterday, I learned how to commute to Powerplant.

Yesterday, my sister went to her YFC meeting.

Yesterday, I was supposed to get my TIN, but because my sister had the YFC meeting, I had to get it some other time.

Yesterday, I only got to sleep for 4 and a half hours.

That was yesterday.

Today, I woke up at 12:00NN.

Today, John was online, but since I was sleeping, I wasn't able to talk to him.

Today, my sis left for her YFC camp, and I'll have the room all to myself now.

Today, I'm stuck at home.

I hope there's more in store for me today.

A really stupid entry
POSTED AT 01:12 AM

I watched Star Wars III today.  I kept saying to myself, "I'm going to do a movie as cool as that when I grow up."  Of course, I meant that I would do the special effects and the graphics of a movie as cool as that.  I felt that if I achieved that goal, I would be very happy.  Well, yeah, fine.  It sounds soooo nerdy.

Well, I kept thinking of how I could reach that goal.  There was this strong urge to work in the US.  And then I thought, "This is not right."  I mean, we go to school, study and say how much this country needs our support and loyalty, and here I am thinking of working abroad.  I mean, my favorite TV shows are there, and the movies they make are the types of movies I want to get involved in.

I'm not doing it for the money. I'm doing it because I like doing it.  It's not unnationalistic... is it?

This thing about me wanting to work on the movies abroad makes me feel like I'm some "Americanized" Filipino, and that's kind of degrading for me.  The computer stuff that they only do there are the things I like doing.  They don't have "special effects movies" here.  I wish someone would direct one in the future (*cough* Ana Alcala, *cough* I mean you. *cough*).

If I do work someplace else, if there's a movie here at home that needs my help, that will be my first priority... even if I'll be asked to work on the ALIAS set.

OK, I think this entry is just pathetic.

Hidden heroes
POSTED AT 06:39 PM

I remembered our Headline in Eco last year.  We had to pick on reporting on either our hero, or a news article.  I didn't really take it so seriously...and I regret it.

This morning, I talked to John.  Part of what he said to me was that, "...if my dad's still alive, i'll be happy."  I asked him why he said that and he told me.  His dad had cancer, and that it was going to be his last fight.

I was stunned.

I always saw John's dad as a guy who abhorred the US, Bush, and the British government.  He would talk about how he got ripped off when he buys stuff, or about how cute John was when he was a little kid.  He talked about all sorts of stuff actually.

John told me the other side of his dad.  He would send 6 African children to school.  He donated a lot of money to save the children's fund, where he got ripped off.  After John told me those things, I just went "whoa!"  He has such a great dad.

There are a lot of people around us, and they are all heroes.

The stupid things that I remember doing on my way home
POSTED AT 12:53 PM

So I was flying home alone, right?  It was my first time... and you know how much a first-timer screws up, right?

My first boo-boo was in the LAX airport.  They had to open my luggage for some unknown reason.  My luggage was locked by a combination, so they asked for it.  I got my luggages back.  The airport guy said it was okay.  I was worried that they didn't lock my luggage so I touched the lock just to make sure.  And then the guy pushing my cart said "NO TOUCHING OF YOUR LUGGAGES, PLEASE!"

I safely got onto the plane, thank God.  The Phantom of the Opera Movie was showing, so that's what I watched the entire time.

When I got to HongKong, I called my mum up.  After that, I went to look for my gate.  It said there "Departures" with arrows pointing to the left and the right.  I asked an airport person "How do I go to gate 62?"  And she pointed to the right as if she were annoyed that I couldn't read.

I had a bladder emergency so I ran to the nearest restroom.  Damn, it smelled like pee when I entered.  No wonder... none of the toilet bowls were flushed.  I went to the next restroom... and they were cleaning it so it was closed!  Can you believe my luck?  Thankfully, there was another restroom closeby.

I got a cart to hold my backpack and my tennis racket.  It was 6:30AM so I was a bit sleepy and tired from the flight.  Do you know those walk-a-lators in the airports? I used it.  But unlike the Philippines and probably half of the world, the hongkong people follow the "Keep left" rule of the British.  I got onto the wrong walk-a-lator!  What's worse is that I only knew it when i realized I was moving backwards.  I hope only the 4 people behind me saw me because that's really embarrassing.

So yeah, it was 6:30AM and all of the shops were closed.  I went straight to the gate for my flight and listened to my mp3 player.  I didn't know that I dozed off.  I was lucky to have woken up just before everyone started boarding the plane.  If I didn't wake up, do you think the stewardess would wake me up to ask me if I was the missing passenger?  Hopefully, yes.

I finally got to Manila.

After immigration, I went to the carousel to get my luggages.  I couldn't find an airport person to get my stuff, but there were 2 guys who were removing the stuff from the carousel, so I asked for their help.  Actually, they already got one of my luggages off the carousel.  That's why I went to them.  I said, "Sir, maleta ko po iyan."  And he put it back on the carousel.  I was like, "Hoy, akin yun!"  The guy said, "Ay! Kunin na lang natin pag-ikot nun."  So when my other luggage passed, I raised my hand (like I do in school) and said, "Akin yan!"  He laughed as he got my balikbayan box which was covered with notes to my sister and brother and dad from my cousins.  He said, "Ayaw ka talaga paalisin no?"

I got through the airport procedures really quickly actually.  Customs didn't have to open my stuff.  If they did, I would be dead.

That was my adventure.

Lessons learned:
- Don't touch your bag in LAX after it was scanned
- Always KEEP LEFT in HongKong...and take the left walk-a-lator
- Set your cellphone to wake you up or don't sleep at all if you're in the airport
- You don't need to raise your hand when asking for your luggages... just say so.
